The Middle Land Between India and Tibet
Spiti Valley Tour Package
Kaza · Key Monastery · Chandratal Lake · Kunzum Pass — India's Cold Desert in 8 Days
Starting from
₹19,999 /person
Package Overview
Spiti Valley is India's last great frontier — a remote, high-altitude cold desert in northern Himachal Pradesh, wedged between the Himalayas and Kunlun ranges, bordering Tibet. The landscape is extraordinary: barren ochre mountains, turquoise rivers, 1,000-year-old monasteries perched on impossible cliff edges, and starry nights with no light pollution for hundreds of kilometres.
Spiti is only accessible June–October. The two access routes are via Shimla (Hindustan Tibet Highway — open year-round) or via Manali over Rohtang and Kunzum Passes (open June–October). Our package does the classic Shimla → Spiti → Manali circuit — the most complete way to experience the valley.
This is not a resort package. Accommodation is in homestays, guesthouses, and camp — some without running water. But the trade-off is access to landscapes that genuinely look like Mars, nights with 10,000 stars, and a culture unchanged for centuries. Experienced Spiti drivers are essential — we provide them.

Must-Visit Places
Top spots you cannot miss on this trip
Key Monastery
Spiti's oldest and largest monastery (founded 11th century) at 4,166m — a whitewashed fortress on a conical hill overlooking the Spiti Valley. The butter lamp-lit prayer hall and monks' morning ritual are extraordinary.
Arrive at 6am for morning prayers when monks chant in the dark by butter lamps. Photography allowed. Stay for the rooftop view at sunrise — one of Spiti's finest.
Chandratal Lake (Moon Lake)
A crescent-shaped high-altitude lake at 4,300m, turquoise-blue and perfectly still in the early morning, reflecting the surrounding moraine peaks. Often inaccessible before June and after October.
Camp overnight at Chandratal — the dawn and dusk colours on the water are unmissable. Campsite is 3km from the lake (vehicle access), then walk.
Dhankar Village & Lake
A precariously perched ancient village and monastery on a 300m cliff above the confluence of the Spiti and Pin rivers. The 2-hour trek up to Dhankar Lake gives unobstructed views of the entire Pin-Spiti valley system.
The old Dhankar monastery (separate from the new one) is a crumbling 1,000-year-old structure on the absolute cliff edge — do not skip it.
Experiences & Activities
What you'll do on this trip
Kaza Local Market & Fossil Hunt
Explore Kaza town's small market for dried apricots, sea buckthorn juice, and Spitian wool. The surrounding riverbed has 450-million-year-old marine fossils visible in the exposed limestone — free to examine.
Langza Buddha & Fossil Village
A 2-hour drive from Kaza, Langza village has a giant 1,000-year-old Buddha statue overlooking the valley, and the surrounding hillside has ancient sea creature fossils exposed in the surface rock.
Travel Tips
Expert advice before you go
Acclimatise 1 full day in Manali or Shimla before entering Spiti — altitude sickness at 3,500–4,500m is serious.
Mobile signal is near-zero in Spiti. BSNL prepaid works in Kaza and a few villages. Download offline maps (Maps.me) before entering.
Petrol stations exist only in Kaza. Fill up completely before entering the valley — the next refuel may be 150km away.
The Manali–Kaza road crosses Kunzum Pass (4,590m) — only open June–October. Shimla–Kaza road (NH-505) is open longer but rougher.
Traveler Reviews
“Spiti is the most beautiful place in India. Period. The Chandratal camp night under the stars was the most incredible experience of our lives. YlooTrips' driver was a genius on those roads.”
Spiti Valley 7N Package
“I was nervous about the roads but the driver made me feel completely safe. Key Monastery at sunrise alone was worth the entire trip. The stargazing at Chandratal is something I will tell my grandchildren about.”
