Beer Street (Tạ Hiện), Hanoi

The most vibrant street in Hanoi's Old Quarter — packed with open-air bars, cheap bia hơi (fresh draft beer for ₹20/glass), street food stalls, and travellers from all over the world. Come after 7pm when the plastic stools spill onto the street.

Hoan Kiem Lake & Old Quarter, Hanoi

The living heart of Hanoi — a jade-green lake with the red Huc Bridge, the 18th-century Ngoc Son Temple on an island, and 36 guild streets of the Old Quarter radiating from its banks. The pedestrian zone on weekends has street performances and food carts.

Hoi An Ancient Town

A UNESCO-listed trading port frozen in the 16th century — Japanese merchant houses, Chinese assembly halls, French colonial facades, and Vietnamese tube houses on one lantern-lit street. The Thursday night Full Moon Festival bans motorised vehicles and fills the town with candles.

Da Nang — Dragon Bridge & Marble Mountains

Vietnam's third-largest city has a stunning riverside promenade, the fire-breathing Dragon Bridge (breathes fire at 9pm on weekends), and the Marble Mountains — five marble-and-limestone peaks with cave pagodas and rooftop views of the South China Sea.

Hue Imperial Citadel

Vietnam's last royal capital — a 10km-walled citadel housing the Imperial City, royal tombs, and the Thien Mu Pagoda on the Perfume River. Less visited than Hoi An but architecturally richer. The royal tombs are scattered across forested hills outside the city.

My Khe Beach, Da Nang

One of Asia's top beaches — a 30km arc of white sand, warm 28°C water year-round, gentle waves, and a backdrop of the Marble Mountains. Forbes named it one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Almost no hawkers, very affordable beach resorts.

Board wooden boardwalks through 7km of illuminated Paradise Cave interior — crystalline stalactites, cathedral chambers reaching 72m high, and underground silence. The most accessible major cave in the park. No permit required.

Zip-line over a jungle river into the mouth of a cave, then navigate through absolute darkness to reach an underground mud pool. Float in mineral-rich mud, rinse off in the cave river, and kayak back out. One of Vietnam's most unique adventure experiences.

Ride the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail — a network of supply roads used during the Vietnam War — through dense jungle, past bomb craters, and over limestone ridges. Countless operators in Son Trach offer guided rides on semi-automatic bikes.

Board a traditional wooden sampan for an 8km journey into Phong Nha Cave along an underground river — stalactites reflected in black water, bat colonies in the ceiling, and spectacular karst formations lit by boat lanterns.
